Maths

Today you are going to have a go at this arithmetic activity to remind you about all the different areas of maths.  The answers are on the last page but we are trusting you to try your best at all the questions before checking your own answers.

We want you to have a go at summarising the main events of Varjak Paw so far! 

Either: Write the 10 main events in bullet points OR draw a comic strip to show the 10 main events. Here's an example to help you.

Golden Time!

This afternoon spend some time doing what you enjoy!  Maybe there's a game or puzzle you haven't played with for a while?  Maybe you could do some drawing or colouring?

Draw a picture to represent what is happening on pages 124 & 125 .

Add speech bubbles to show what the 3 characters are saying.

 

PSHE/Jigsaw

This afternoon we’re doing Jigsaw/PSHE in class!

You can do this too from home.

  1. Complete each of these sentences:

    Boys are…
    Girls are…
    Police officers are…
    Rich people are…
    Sporty people are…

  2. Now look at these pictures and for each of the people in the picture, write what you think the answer to these questions will be:

    How old am I?
    What is my favourite food?
    What is my hobby?
    What is my secret?

  3. Now have a look at their actual answers here.

  4. Answer these questions:

    What surprised you about these people?
    Why did this surprise you?
    Why do you think it’s important not to make assumptions (guesses) about people before we really know them?

1. Can you name all 3 skills that Jalal has taught Varjak in the dreams? 
2. Today we are going to write a set of instructions for how to do the third skill: Hunting
Here's an example set of instructions for something else to help you. 
3. Be ready to read your work out on zoom in the afternoon (this makes your teachers very happy!)

Enquiry

Today in Enquiry, you are going to make a string and cup telephone! You can try it with someone at home.

1. Watch this video explaining how to make it. 

You will need: 

- 2 plastic or paper cups

- A long piece of string

2. Draw a diagram of the cup and string telephone (and label it) and how the sound travels.

3. Write a paragraph to explain how it is possible to hear through a cup and string telephone even when each person is far away.
(Even if you didn't have the equipment to do this at home, you can still write an explanation in your book).

2. Now draw a picture of Mesopotamia using words and phrases from the text to help you (Chapter 10). Add colour! 
3. Label it with the words and phrases you used after you have drawn it.
