The governors of Hannah More Primary School would like to understand where the school is now in terms of parental engagement, so that we can measure and document improvements in the school culture and in our community connections. We would like to ask your opinions about the statements below now, and again in six months’ time, to measure how the improvements we are making have helped the school.
Please complete this survey by 6pm on 21 July.
We will only use the information collected in this survey to help us understand how parents feel about Hannah More, and analyse any potential differences among groups or types of people. All information collected is anonymous, and once it is compiled all individual survey documents will be destroyed.

Friends of Hannah More is a registered charity (1196297) linked to the school, providing community activities and support for families. Friends have supported lots of activities, such as the parent courses, creche, bonfire night celebrations, circus skills clubs, art groups, trips and visits.
Their last AGM was in November 2023.

Greggs have some hardship vouchers available in 2024 - you can apply here if you did not get a grant from them in 2023
The council also have an emergency fund; this is for people in crisis, for example if you have no money for food or fuel. You can apply for this here.
Parents are involved in many other ways at Hannah More. We invite parents to special events and to share our learning. We run classes and workshops for parents. We have a PTA (parent teacher association) who can be contacted at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. . They raise money for school by organising cake sales, fairs, discos and more! They provide a chance to get together to help the school and to meet new friends. They are a very welcoming group!

Tuesdays - Sewing. Learn to use a sewing machine, do some hand sewing or complete your own projects. Ask at school for more details.
Thursdays - Craft - ask at school or check the newsletter. COme and make a postcard as part of our Windrush project!
Fridays 9.30-11.30 and 1.30-3.00 - Cooking with Travelling Kitchen. Speak to Sarah at school!
Occasional Saturdays - Family Swims at Easton. Check the newsletter for details and make sure you know the rules!
Over the holidays there are some FREE Sports days for children run by Bristol Sport Foundation. Look out for forms which are sent home prior to the holidays.
The Hub library is open after school for families on Tuesdays and Fridays.
Governors
What is the governing body?
The governing body has nine members. Some are parents of Hannah More children; others are members of the local community, one is chosen by the local authority and one is a staff representative. We have three committees who meet regularly to look at various aspects of school life. We meet as a full governing body at the end of each term. We regularly visit school to monitor and evaluate particular aspects of the school such as behaviour and safety.

Our role is to:
- Work with the Head Teacher to determine the overall direction of the school
- Oversee the budget
- Help recruit staff
- Monitor how well the school is doing and how well pupils achieve at Hannah More.

Name: Bern Leckie, (Chair) Parent Governor
Job: I am head of music for a national children’s radio station and work freelance as a producer of websites, podcasts and other media
Governor Role: Link governor for Finance and English
Why am I a governor? Hannah More Primary School is central to the community I’ve lived in for over 10 years, and my family wants to see it thrive. I have previous experience as an exam board subject officer, a children’s media company director, and a volunteer reading buddy at this and other schools. I’m passionate about bringing understanding and creativity together to help people learn and grow. As a governor, I enjoy learning about how the school’s diverse community works. I can also use my coaching and evidence-gathering skills to help support and challenge the leadership to give students from all backgrounds the best possible start in life.

Why I am a Governor: I am employed as the Premises Manager at Hannah More. This has enabled me to become fully involved in the governance of the school. I am able to represent the staff’s views at meetings and share my knowledge of the school with governors. I am entirely committed to raising attainment and working towards our goal to become an outstanding school. I feel, that as a team of governors, we are all committed to putting children’s education and needs first to give them the best start in life and education.

Why am I a governor? I have worked in informal education for over a decade, so I have an interest in learning and have seen the challenges facing schools and teachers. I want to use my experience to support my local primary school to be the best that it can be. As a resident of the Dings, I want to see my community’s children have the best education and opportunity. And, as mother of a two year old, I am investing in what I hope will be my child’s future school. Being a governor is also an opportunity for me to learn, develop and give something back to my community.

Why am I a governor? I have taught engineering and history at sixth form and university level, have volunteered to help children and adults develop academic and workplace skills, and currently participate in activities supporting women in STEM. As a school governor I will use my skills to help Hannah More’s students gain experience and knowledge that will help them succeed and achieve in their future lives.

Why am I a governor? I worked at Hannah More for 9 years as a volunteer, teaching assistant and class teacher and during this time have got to know the amazing pupils and school community. I am passionate about inspiring every child at Hannnah More to succeed in their education and am lcommitted to working alongside the other governors to help ensure this. I hope to use my knowledge as a teacher to share the views of staff and help improve outcomes for every child at Hannah More.

Governor Role: Link Governor for Behaviour
Why am I a governor? In my pursuit of leaving an indelible success mark on the behaviour, academic and health and safeguarding scoreboard of young people, regardless of culture and social background, I deem it fit to acknowledge the rare privilege of serving and been mentored at Hannah More Primary School. I desire to see highly reformed young individuals, whose perspectives, behaviours, and exploits are engineered towards a global transformation in innovation and learning. It is crucial to understand the different and stringent behavioural, social, health and academic languages conveyed boldly and shyly by innocent young individuals, and Hannah More is committed to accept, process and produce meaningful feedback that results in brighter and brilliant pupils.

How Are We Organised?
The Full Governing Body meet 4-6 times a year.
In each term each link governor meets with their key staff member to review the impact of their work and find out more about what they are doing. The link governor reports form a crucial part of the Full Governing Body meeting as they offer the whole governing body an insight into the work of several key staff members in the school. The discussion around the report informs the link governors' next meetings. Three times a year the governing body organise a teaching and learning review (GTLR) when they explore in a 'hands on' way some of the themes that have been a focus. They may watch lessons or look at books, speak to teachers or children and senior leaders.

Celebrating success
Each week, two children from each year group will be chosen as a 'SuperKid'. These will be children who have shown excellent behaviour or outstanding learning consistently, throughout the week.
Special educational needs
Hannah More Primary is an inclusive school where all staff are committed to the success of every pupil.
All children are valued, respected and welcomed at our school, whatever their additional educational needs may be. We support children’s learning and aim to ensure they are fully included in all school activities.
As a school we follow the Government’s Code of Practice to identify, assess and support pupils with special educational needs.
Through the use of Pupil Profiles, we provide support that is tailored to meet each individual pupil’s needs. Support may be in the classroom in a small group or through separate activities. Support is delivered by a skilled team of teachers and learning support assistants.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION -
If your child is going in to Year 3 in September, you may need to register for free meals - they may no longer get a 'universal' free school meal.If you are claiming certain benefits then you can claim Free School Meals. Please apply online through the Bristol City Council website .The office can tell you if you have already registered and we will send text reminders before the school year starts.
Office staff can also help with questions about school menu, after school clubs, admissions, class trips, forms, holiday dates and contact information.
If your child is unwell please phone the office before 9:00am on 0117 9039936 to explain why they will not be in school.
If you call before the office is open, please leave a voicemail message with your child's name, class and the reason for their absence.
School Uniform and Lost Property

Please make sure your child's clothes are named - this will stop them from ending up in lost property. If Items are named then we are able to get them back to their owners. We recommend STIKINS Labels. They are really easy to use – no sewing or ironing – just stick them to the wash-care label. They are washing machine, tumble-dryer, dishwasher and even microwave-proof!
Use them on coats, clothing, lunch boxes, water bottles, shoes, bags, PE kits, glasses cases, trainers, phones etc. Make sure to quote our school code (8906) when ordering to help us raise much needed funds for the school with each purchase made!
